B: The population in Bangka is around 250,000 people, with 13,000 living in Merawang Area. The density of the population is not too dense. The mining activity has started since 1709. The government gives rules for the tin mining companies. If the mining company doesn’t obey the rules that the government has given or if they don’t fulfill the standards, their license will be lifted. Out of more than 300 mining companies, there has been around 200 mining companies that has their license lifted because they don’t fulfill the standards of the government. According to Pak Camat, legal tin mining companies means that they have fulfill the standards from the government and they have their licenses. They also watch over the ones that often disobey the rules and regulations of mining. Tin mining companies really affects the local people livings. The local people rely on tin mining for their jobs. If the government lifts their mining license, many people will lose their jobs. The economy in Bangka itself also relies on tin mining. Right now, their economy is not good. Because the lands are often mined, the tin has decreased and it gets harder to find tin. The tin/s priced has also decreased. Often, the workers that lost their jobs will come to the former mining site and search for more remaining tin. But, the regulations from the government says that when a mining site is closed, they have to purify the soil from being acidic so that people can plant plants in former mining sites. (no narrator)

R: This mining site has started since 2007. Their activities include mining, processing, and also refining tin. They have a total of 104 hectares of mining area. In collecting the tin itself, they basically separate the tin from sand and other materials. Out of the sand that they pick up, they can find several minerals. These are Sn(Tin), Fe(Iron), Pb(Lead), S(Sulfur), Al(Aluminium), and also Si(Silicon). After separating, they would have SnO2 . The processing itself has 4 different ways. First is through heat, reaching 1300 degrees Celsius. The second one is charging, through electricity. The others are what they call “rabling” and also “taping”. After the process of refinery, the material with 70% Sn would become 99.9% Sn. This process gets rid of other materials. After it reaches 99.9% tin, it is considered as pure tin and is molded to different types of shapes and figures with different density. To the maximum capacity, the company can produce up to 600 tons of refined tin each month. This company also exports their tin, and they have a lab, working on quality check before the tin is sent away. This company though, cares for the environment. They use a green smelter, an environmentally friendly smelter that releases vapor instead of exhaust flames or smoke. They also have their own opinion about being environmentally friendly. They don’t want to ruin the habitat of sea turtles. In fact, they have a program about helping the environment and also the people. In one of the programs, they try to help the sea turtles. After a mining site is no longer used, the materials and minerals would be gone. The soil isn’t healthy anymore, and there can be no plant that can grow on unhealthy soil. The ideal way of closing a mining site is to close them by reclamation. This means that they have to purify the soil from being acidic. In order to do this, they layer the used soil with new healthy soil and after a while, they can plant plants on them. About the safety of the workers, the workers are trained enough to work there. There’s a certification for those who are qualified as workers, and they have practiced to do it the right way.

B: Belitung island is right next to Bangka island.
*the view of the entrance of Belitung Airport*
B: These mine workers stay in “warung” after work. This is one of the place they stay in after work are when they are not working.
*Interview of Pak Irwan*
B: According to Pak Irwan, there is always bad side of mining which is respiratory system. And the causes because of the tin dust goes in to the lungs because most of the workers are not using masker.
B:In this province, the people rely on the tin mining. The majority of locals here have a job in mining companies, (fast forward of mining sites)although some locals are disturbed by the fact that they are living near tin mining areas (one of the interviews short clip, excluding the audio). Tin mining can cause several bad effects to the environment and people, especially when they don't obey the rules (if there is, a short clip of the polluted river). Their licenses would be lifted up if they don't meet the standards of the government or if they disobey the rules and regulations. Genesis 1:26-27 says that mankind has to rule over people. In this case, mankind has to be a good leader, protecting the animals and environment instead of destroying them. This means, even obeying rules and regulations from the government is important even in a biblical perspective.Despite this, there are still mining companies that have their license lifted up. In any way, this should not continue, but will it? (Important short or fast-forwarded clips all the way through)

Reflection
In the trip to Bangka Belitung island, we don't only play but wealso have to collect information to make a documentary movie. Whenw e go back to school, then we make all the narrative script and also the movie itsle.f What is hard is covering the information that we don't have. Soemtimes although we provide the information, we have limited time and as the interviewers we worry about having to ask all th 2questions above getting clear and understandable answers. The people mgiht actually have somehing to say but they just odn't tell it out properly. When we get these kinds of answers when we ahve to get the information for an important part of the movie, we face a challenge. But the benefits fo this fieldtrip is that we actually get new informatin about the island, and it is clear when we hae to interview or when we have to play.
