REFLECTION
on Gr.8 Field trip to Bandung
A reflection time at the end of collapse to answer their guiding questions
How this field trip has changed my perspective about Environments?
1. Since you commenced this unit, describe the ways in which your own perspective has changed regarding the environment you studied.
When I was little and when I don't remember what Bandungis like, I used to think it was so green and there are so little buildings. I used to think Bandung is full of little houses and green trees or rice fields, but when I visited Bandung again I know that what I though is wrong. I thought that Bandung is like any other city with tall buildings and little trees, but I now that it is near the mountains. Going on this field trip, my perspective towards Bandung and its environment changed again. This time when I go to Bandung in this fieldtrip, I went to some parts I have never been to before, and I see green trees. The trees are still there and no one was there to cut it. For example, Kampung Naga. They even protected a forest and they prohibited and going inside because they could kill the plants in the forest=. My perspective has changed and I think Kampung Naga is very interesting because they only depend on the nature. There are little electricity provided and even the toilet is very open to air and nature. This fieldtrip has also leave me some fascinating and unforgettable moments I spent with my friends.
2. Why is it important to understand how different people perceive the environment? Clue: our perceptions lead to our decisions…
It is important to understand how different people perceive the environment because how we see what is around us affects us in our life and what do we do. To be in Kampung Naga without trying to understand their perception to the nature and environment is impossible. Because they look at the environment as all they can depend on, and they had enough source from their environment. They live just the right amount of advantages from the nature and their way of life is way simpler then us. Without understanding how they see the nature, it is impossible to be there because you will probably think of the nature as nothing for you and for them and you could probably break something of a long chain of their way of living. This is one example of why it is important t understand how different people perceive the environment. It is so we can accept others and also be accepted by others in another different environment from what we live in everyday.
3. What does the Bible say about how mankind ought to relate to the environment?
“The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.” – genesis 2:15
I think the verse tells us that we are supposed to keep the environment healthily and advantageous. What most of the people in the world is doing right now is breaking down the ecosystem and destroying the environment, which could cause some effects to come and be a disadvantage to us humans. So what we are supposed to do is to keep the environment clean, healthy and also just how is supposed to be so that like in kampong Naga, we can just live as simple as we can and just enjoy what the environment is supposed to give us.
4. How might your lifestyle and actions impact on you local environment and the global environment?
I admit that my current lifestyle is not advantageous for the environment, and that I may suggest myself to change my lifestyle. I am always wasting electricity and I don’t really throw my garbage where they are supposed to be thrown away. That may impact on the local environment. By throwing garbage at the street it may cause flooding because there are too much garbage falling down to a body of water that causes it to overflow. I am also probably wasting my paper, and papers are made of cut trees. This way I’m part of global warming even though I am still talking about preventing it. But, I can’t help to use so many papers and cut more trees in an indirect way, which means I am supporting global warming, affecting also the global environment by making it hotter and killing plants (and some animals) by heat and extreme climate change.
5. How might you change your lifestyle and actions based on new perceptions of the environment
As I have already said before, I may suggest myself to change my lifestyle. Actually if I think about his, I should change my lifestyle. I should at least try to think about the environment more. I should start to throw away my trashes properly and I have to be like a person who actually cares about the environment. I know I can’t stop myself from using paper because papers are just so effective, but I should try to waste paper. I could b=probably use scrap paper to draw some drawing that I would probably abandon later because I would be a waste to keep them, or maybe I could keep them so I can actually use the paper itself or the other side of the paper to do something else, or draw another drawing.
